Getting Started

What does "stays small" mean?

Peep is designed around the idea that most people have just 5-15 people they really want to stay connected with regularly. Instead of trying to connect you with the whole world, we focus on strengthening the connections you already have. No viral content, no trending topics, no pressure to grow your audience.

How is this different from group chats?

Good question! Peep is like if group chats had better organization and didn't "blow up" when people find something to talk about. You can share photos that don't get lost in chatter, catch up on what you missed more easily, and manage multiple groups without cluttering your main messaging app. It's more permanent than chat but more intimate than social media.

When will Peep launch?

We're working on it as fast as we can! Sign up for email updates and we'll let you know as soon as it's ready. Building something great takes time.

Privacy & Security

How private is Peep?

Very private. Posts are only visible to the groups you explicitly share them with. There are no public profiles or posts, and no way for strangers to find or follow you. We don't collect unnecessary data, and we'll never sell your information to advertisers - you're the customer, not the product. We also only work with vendors and service providers who share our commitment to privacy and data protection. We publish our vendor relationships transparently and will change providers if they don't live up to our standards.

What happens to my data?

Your data stays yours. We only collect what we need to make Peep work - your posts, group memberships, and basic account info. We don't track you across the web, we don't build advertising profiles, and we'll never sell your information. If you want to leave Peep, you can export your data and delete your account completely.

How does moderation work?

Since there's no public content, most moderation happens at the group level. Group owners moderate their groups and can remove posts or members as needed. For platform-wide issues (harassment, illegal content), we have basic moderation tools. But since everything is private by default, there's much less need for heavy-handed moderation.

Features & Functionality

How do groups work?

You can create different groups for different parts of your life - family, close friends, work friends, hobby groups, etc. When you post, you choose which groups can see it. People can be in multiple groups. Group owners manage who can join their groups and set the tone for their community.

Is there really no algorithm?

Well, technically all software uses algorithms, but we don't use algorithms to decide what you should see to maximize engagement. Posts appear in chronological order. We believe you should decide what's important to you, not an algorithm trying to keep you scrolling. You'll see everything from your groups in the order it was posted - nothing hidden, nothing promoted.

What features will Peep have?

We're starting simple: text posts, photo sharing, and comments within your groups. No likes, no shares outside your groups, no public content. We'll add features based on what our users actually need, not what drives engagement. Think group chat meets photo album, not Twitter meets Instagram.

Will there be a mobile app?

We'd like there to be! We're focusing on making the web app first so people can get started with Peep as soon as possible, then we'll move our focus to building a great mobile experience. When we do build it, it'll be designed for quick check-ins - no infinite scroll, and push notification settings that respect you with no random nudges.

Pricing & Business Model

How much does it cost?

Group owners pay a small monthly fee to host their groups, while members can join and participate for free. We believe if you're not paying, you're the product - and advertisers being the real customers is what drives the dark patterns that ruin social platforms. By having group owners pay directly, we can focus on building features that serve users, not advertisers. In the future, we'll add the ability for members to donate toward their group's costs if they want to help out.

Why do group owners have to pay?

We need to make money somehow, and we refuse to do it through ads or selling your data. Group owners get the most value from Peep - they can bring their communities together and create spaces for meaningful connection. The fee is small (we're talking coffee money, not rent money) and it means we can focus entirely on making Peep better for users, not advertisers.
